Do you have a sweet tooth or are you more of a savory person? I’ll be honest, I love both. I just enjoy flavorful foods. I love unique foods. I truly enjoy trying new foods and especially from local spots. If I travel to a new city or country I always do searches of local options and what local foods they are known for. It’s such a travel foodie cliche, but how do you ever expand your palate if you stick to what you know?
Now this spot is pretty unique. For one they spell out dough-nuts. I know, I know, that’s a way it’s spelled, I’m just used to the basic donut. That’s how I knew DG was going to be an experience. And to make it even more one-of-kind, it’s in a gas station. You can either drive through or go into the gas station and choose from some fun flavors.
At this point I’ve been to DG many times, it’s actually in my neighborhood now. Which is kind of dangerous. They have so many options, including their staples you can find on the regular. And they have speciality flavors that change frequently, their social media keeps you up to date on their speciality flavors! If you happen to stop by, I would recommend heading over in the morning. I’ve found the doughnuts to be much fresher in the morning as well as the fact they run out of stuff really fast!
These doughnuts are also beautiful, hefty and for those reasons, very reasonably priced. They are definitely a tad more than if you went to Dunkin or Krispy Kreme, but you are getting more for your buck and it really is a different experience. Don’t get me wrong, I like those spots too, but I’d consider this an artisan doughnut shop. And I’ve had some doughnuts from here which I didn’t love, and like I recommended earlier – the fresher you get them the better.
Overall, I’d say this is a solid doughnut shop. If you are familiar with the Orlando doughnuts, I’d say I am still more of a Donut King fan. Donut King is almost a perfect mash of Dunkin + Krispy Kreme, but DG is just in it’s own wheelhouse and a stand out at that. I usually get a few and split them up with a group for brunch. They are so big you can easily split them, or if you don’t want to, keep it to yourself! Keep an eye out for some special flavor you are excited about and head out one morning for a fancy doughnut.. or several!
