I love me some Thai food. I fell in love with the wide noodle dishes, pad see ew & pad kee mao. It is pretty much the only type of food I’ll consistently order these noodle dishes, and on rare occasion, try something new, usually it’s vice versa. I’m on the hunt for the best wide rice noodle dish there is.
Flavor-wise, I don’t have a huge issue with the Thai food I’ve had here in Orlando. What I do have an issue with is that they don’t have the fresh wide noodles, it’s like they don’t exist here. Everywhere I’ve gone here in Orlando, there have been fettuccine-sized noodles – it makes me sad, but what can you do?! Anyways, I was recommended this place by a couple who I happened to be sitting next to on the Disney Cruise I was on, and I made sure to add it to my list.
At this point, I’ve gone in twice, once to dine in and once for takeout. Before I went to dine in for the first time, I looked up some reviews, and it looked fantastic. I was ready to just order the pad see ew and call it, but the reviews mentioned that the Thai tea was good, and I gave in. Okay, I lied, I also always try Thai tea whenever I go to a Thai spot. It was good, exactly how I expected. I will say I’m always delighted when restaurants have a less sweet version (aka a lil less condensed milk). This one was definitely sweet, but I still enjoyed it.

For a slight variation, I went with the Basic Noodles because I saw a chili sign next to it, and I love how Thai food makes my nose run. The staff was super sweet; they did ask my spice level, and I asked for hot, but it still came out relatively mild, so I would have liked some more spice to it. And again, the noodles – I really just want Orlando to figure out how to get the wide noodles. I love basil, so I’m glad I gave this dish a try, but I don’t know if I need to get it again. I had a similar experience with my takeout order, which was the Pad See Ew. They were both pretty good, but neither blew me away.

With my takeout order, I also got a papaya salad with the salted crab. I’ve heard wonderful things about papaya salad in general and just never gave it a try, so I figured, why not? And I’m glad I did! It was so refreshing, and citrusy, and had a good kick to it. Definitely the highlight of my experience. And the crab is just a couple of dollars more than the salad, truly a great deal. It’s a small crab, salty, spicy, and so flavorful. I was so sad when I finished!
There is plenty of variety at the Thai House, so I’d definitely go back and try some of their other dishes and go back for the tea and salad. This is right by Mills 50 on East Colonial, there is a lot of competition and so many new places popping up each day, but it’s worth checking out!
