A key category in the foodie scene is Disney restaurants. Even if you want to avoid the parks, there are plenty of great restaurants at the resorts, and you don’t even have to stay there to dine there. It’s definitely an occasional occurrence because the restaurants are still Disney prices, so it can add up real quick. For Cast Members, I recommend checking the dining discounts, because when we went it was 40% off!
I went to Toledo for the first to the other week for a girl’s night. It was actually rather easy to get a reservation here. The restaurant is located in the Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs. The decor was beautiful, the ceiling specifically, and wine bottles gracing the walls. There is even a little balcony to go out onto for some views or enjoy a drink.
We started with some drinks, I thought I got a Mezcal-based drink, but looking at the menu I only saw one tequila drink, so that’s probably what I got. It was a good drink, just a steep $16. And even if you are able to get that Cast discount, it does not include liquor. My friend knew exactly what kind of wine she wanted, especially since she saw the bottle on the wall we were sitting at. Oddly enough, she wasn’t able to order it because our waiter said that they select the bottles from the back first and the ones we see are the last to be opened. I found that strange because it would have been really easy to just grab the bottle she asked for. Also right after he said that they don’t take from the front of the wall we were looking at, we saw someone else grab a bottle from there. It was just weird. I don’t see the point in showcasing a bottle of wine and then saying you won’t serve it.
We all ordered something different for our entrees. I ordered the Sustainable Fish, which happened to be a swordfish. It was wonderful, with a little bit of cauliflower to go along with it. I’m a huge fan of fish and restaurants, because other than salmon, I really don’t know how to cook it. My one friend ordered the Rioja-braised Chicken, which I think she enjoyed. We realized it was one of the only options for her aside from the vegetarian option since she is pregnant. It is crazy to realize how many restrictions and considerations there are during pregnancy! Then my other friend ordered the Filet of Beef and the Brussels Sprouts, which would have probably been my other option. Both of those. I love Brussels sprouts, especially at restaurants. I’m sure it’s not particularly healthy, but it’s always delicious! They are a separate side dish, but totally worth it if you are a fan.
One thing about almost all of my friends that I love. We are always trying to save room for dessert. I split the Almond cheesecake and my friend also ordered the ‘The Toledo Tapas Bar’. I would say the cheesecake is worth it, especially to share. It looks small, but it’s rich. I loved the almond-y crust and I wanted more of the pistachio cake. When I read the description I thought there would be a layer of the cake, but it was just a little side piece. The thing about fancy restaurants is… Things look beautiful but are dainty and tiny. After a full meal, this was a great size, but the ratios of the elements could have been more evenly distributed.
The meal was good, there are a few things here and there that could have been better. I don’t know if I’ll be headed back soon, solely because of how expensive a meal can be. It’s worth a try for a splurge!
