I had been here once many years ago, but I don’t remember much about that experience. I recently dropped by for brunch with my Orlando Foodie crew. The Ravenous Pig is located in the Winter Park area right by Rollins College and right across the street from Fiddler’s Green.
For the location, they have a decent parking lot and the restaurant itself is gorgeous. We started off our brunch with some drinks and a pastry board! My one friend got a sangria which she enjoyed and my other friend eventually got one as well. He had originally opted for the ‘brunch punch’ of the day, which he wasn’t particularly a fan of. It is cheaper than the options and comes in a little teacup, so it is a smaller portion as well. I opted for the tequila cocktail option on the menu of course, which it seems they rotate because I do not recall the name, but I did enjoy it.
The pastry board was the main event! I believe this is a rotating board, we ended up with a pumpkin cheesecake in a jar, white chocolate cranberry scones, and a chocolate tart. In order, the pumpkin cheesecake was basically a mousse, in the best way, it was light and luxurious. Some of my favorite scones I’ve had. Scones can be dry as hell, but these were moist, sweet, and delightful. The chocolate tart was the least interesting, but still very good. We should have probably started and ended with this board.
For our main meal, I opted for the Chicken and Waffles. In the description, it says ‘guava, goat cheese, and espresso milk crumb’, I wish it had some more details. I will say the presentation was nice, but I don’t know about you, but I like my sauces and such on the side. The guava part of the description meant some kind of guava sauce, which the chicken was drenched in. It overpowered the dish and I had to scrape that along with the breading off because it ultimately made the breading soggy. But I didn’t want to waste the whole dish so I did eat the chicken.
Both of my friends got the BBQ Brisket Sandwich and were both disappointed. They said it didn’t taste like BBQ at all, and ultimately didn’t eat much of the sandwich. However, they did like the fries. It was hard to ignore that they really didn’t eat and were comp’d for their meals.
Ultimately, it was disappointing that the meals were not great overall, but I’m glad the restaurant accommodated. I don’t know that I’d go back any time soon. If I do, I wouldn’t mind grabbing a drink and splitting another pastry board.
