Season 1 wrapped this past week and now I need a new show to watch! Check out the review of Part 1 over here. I kept up with the rest of the season week by week and honestly didn’t hate going back to the pre-binge world format. It gave me something to look forward to each week.
In the second half of the season, Nan who I kind of raved about in the first half, did begin to develop her flaws. Within her love triangle, she starts to just run off when things get hard. Even though I appreciate that she is trying to take time and make a decision that’s right for her, she is also the one who keeps allowing the situation to drag on and stringing these guys along. There’s a point where Nan says it’s not about either of the guys to Theo, but about her. To which Theo calls her out and says that it’s always about her, I appreciated that.
At the same time, these are young girls. And as much as there is a bit of courting, as soon as there is mutual interest, it’s right on along to marriage. It reminds me of arranged marriages. I cannot imagine marrying someone so quickly without really knowing them. So Nan’s initial meeting with Theo was cute and there was something there. But as the truths of who he really is and what comes with that and Nan’s own family history are revealed, the reality sets in and the romance begins to fizzle. Meanwhile, the chemistry between Nan and Guy remains rather undeniable.
A lot of this storyline was predictable, as you’d expect in a love triangle. However, I was surprised at how Theo presence changed as we first saw him as this artistic, sweet guy, but then jealousy consumes him as he learns about Guy’s feelings towards Nan. It really changed his whole personality and I’m curious to see how he unfolds in Season 2, which I very much hope we get.
I want the next season, cause I hope there’s more character development with all the other characters. Each girl has their own side stories, which I’ve now become invested in. The main focus being on Nan and her triangle, we only get bits of all the other subplots. As I mentioned in the last post, I still want to see Lizzie’s story unfold. There’s not really much of a subplot setup for her right now, but there was a little moment with her and Guy which I don’t think was even meant to spark something, but it was a great moment. If something brewed with them down the line, I wouldn’t mind. But overall I’d love to see her develop into a fierce independent woman.
The finally really does set the next season up in an interesting manner. You’ll have to watch to know what that means. We get some pivotal decisions and I want to know more details and how things unfold. I’m most curious how they would continue as this was based on an unfinished book, so the show could really take it in any direction. I do have my fingers crossed for a season 2!
