Donna pulled me in, but she wasn’t around enough to keep me to stay. I went on Netflix to find something to watch and I saw Miss Sarah Rafferty on the recommender (Donna of Suits), and I clicked play. I gave it a good chance. I really did. I got through to the first few minutes of episode 6 out of 10, and I just couldn’t anymore.

The show follows a teenage girl, Jackie, whose family dies in an accident. She’s sent to live with her mom’s best friend (Donna, but really Katherine on this show), who happens to have a bajillion sons and one daughter, as per the will. Jackie is a New York City girl, but Katherine and her family live on a farm. You know, the cliche of a city girl winding up in the country. Anywhos, we follow Jackie along as she tries to acclimate in her life.

Of course, instantly the two boys right around her age fall for her. Although I swear half of them are the same age and yet I hadn’t heard anything about twins. There’s the ‘popular’ jock brother Cole who has a thing with one of the popular girls, and he has the damaged brooding thing going on because he was on track to get a football scholarship but got injured. Then there’s the ‘dorky’ brother Alex who is more timid. Alex has some beef with Cole since it seems Cole hooked up with some other girl Alex was interested in or with at some point. And of course, they both are into the same girl again.

The major plot does seem to be this love triangle. There is a clear bias/chemistry between Jackie and Cole. Even though it’s obvious Alex likes Jackie, that feeling didn’t seem super mutual. The show is really trying to make this triangle happen. If I’m being super honest, I think I just may be too old because this whole show has been cringy to watch. I don’t know if it’s cause they are so young and I’m old or if it really is the acting. I truly am not invested in most of the storylines, even the oldest brother who is supposed to be getting married soon, but having some kind of a career crisis along with financial woes.

I am kind of interested in Donna… sorry Katherine, and her husband played by Marc Blucas who I know from his time on Buffy. They are also having financial woes, considering they have a whole athletic team living with them plus animals. If the show was about them, I may be more invested. But they are very much the background story.

I started episode six and just couldn’t keep watching. Now if you want something super cheesy, kinda cringy and unserious, go for it. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.
