Ya’ll I don’t even know why I kept up with this series… By the time this post goes live, I’ve also listened to one of the in-between books, How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories, which I won’t be posting on since it’s the same sentiment.

The Wicked King ends on a cliffhanger which is highlighted by the title of this book, but I don’t want to give any spoilers. The pro of this series is that since I read the first one, I’m familiar with the story which makes it super easy to just listen to in the background. Honestly, I think that’s what keeps me coming back because since the first book I’ve listened to the rest of them. I’ve struggled getting into some of the other audiobooks because if I’m not fully listening I can miss a lot of the context.

Anywhos, I will say this book was pretty on par with all of my reviews. Basically, I just wanted more. Even in this book, I felt like we finally made headway on the relationship between Jude and Carden, and they have a spark, but just no passion. Aka, this book isn’t giving the smuttiness I wanted, at least once. I did appreciate there was some more sister time in this series. They’ve had a rocky relationship, especially between Jude and her twin Taryn, so it was nice to see more of them. I will say that the reason Taryn finds her way to Jude did feel so rushed, I wish there was more build-up to it.

The in-between book I mentioned earlier picks up where this book leaves off but also flashes back and is from the perspective of Carden. I am not sure but wouldn’t be surprised if more books are coming in this series. However, I think I am done with it. I’m going to go back and continue the ACOTAR series. Again, they aren’t terrible, but also not memorable.
