If you are a Libby user, I just recently found out that there is a way to search for books that are immediately available. Because I had reached my max amount of book holds. They come available quick though, I totally got overwhelmed with the amount that kept coming. But when I was waiting, I needed something and I saw One Italian Summer. The author looked familiar so I picked it up.

I actually picked up a physical copy of In Five Years a few months back (no, I haven’t read it yet), but I’ve heard great reviews. Oh, and I saw that Lauren Graham, the Lorelei Gilmore, narrated this book so that was an instant in. I thought that was a great get, especially because the book opens with a Lorelei Gilmore quote, and within the first chapter or two Serle refers to Parenthood, so it was very meta.

This is going to sound very random, but there was a Netflix movie (based off of a book) called Love & Gelato, which was cheesy but cute. For some reason, I thought this was the book I picked up. I found out pretty quickly, it wasn’t… Aside from the fact that the main character goes to Italy influenced by their mom.

In One Italian Summer, Katy goes to Positano after her mom passes. They were supposed to go together, but unfortunately, she passed beforehand. Katy and her mom were BFFs, which is all the more reason why Lauren Graham’s narration is so kismit. Katy doesn’t know who she is or what she’s meant to do with her mom, but she still goes on the trip because she knows her mom would want to. She ends up meeting a woman who is essentially her mom from the past and the story ensues. So there’s this whole storyline of Katy spending as much time as she can with this woman since she’s trying to hold on to anything that reminds her of her mom. She’s also ‘on a break’ with her husband, and there’s an Italian summer romance with someone she meets there.

I almost stopped listening to this book, cause I wasn’t super invested. But I kept going. A lot of these books I continue are easy listens in the background, and I don’t feel like I have to be super invested. I don’t know why but I didn’t really connect with the book. As much as I love Gilmore Girls, that isn’t the relationship I have with my mom. If anything, I leaned closer to Lane/Mrs. Kim, kind of.

Anyways, it’s another quick and easy listen (I feel like this is all of my audiobook reviews). I don’t think it’s a must-read. I actually think I wanna go and find Love & Gelato and listen to that and see if I like it better.
