At this point, I’ve probably been to Mochinut a handful of times. I think I had my first mochi donut from Mochinut when it opened up a couple years ago. The Mochinut that I’ve been to in the Dr. Phillips area also serves Korean Hot Dogs. Since I haven’t been to any other location I’m not sure if all locations serve the hot dogs as well.

My first experience with mochi was probably mochi ice cream and I feel like it wasn’t my favorite, because of the competing textures. I’ve come to enjoy it more now that I know the texture I’m expecting. However, the first time I had a mochi donut, or like a sesame ball from a dim sum place, I loved that chewy doughy texture.

I have tried a few flavors from Mochinut, usually a different one each time I’ve gone. I enjoyed them, but I feel like the times I’ve gone they haven’t been super fresh. I am curious how it would taste straight out of the oven. I’ll also say the flavors are usually a bit of icing on the top, so it’s very subtle flavor differences. My favorite part about these donuts is even though it’s like a ‘normal’ ring-shaped donut, they are kind of like a ring of munchkins (aka donut holes for boring people). So I love breaking them apart and popping one little ‘munchkin’ at a time.

And since they have the K-Dogs at this location, I obviously tried them too. I think previously I had tried the potato time, I think this last time I tried the original with half dog/half cheese. I enjoyed this more because they make these to order, so they come out fresh. I do find Korean dogs to be an indulgence, I am like immediately full when I have them. But they are delicious. This location has a good variety of flavor options.

I believe the donuts were around $3.50 which I think is on the expensive side for the size and quality, but not really crazy in comparison to prices these days. The K-Dogs were between $5-7 I think that’s reasonable. I’ve obviously enjoyed it enough to go back, and if you haven’t tried a mochi donut or K-Dog, this is a good place to give it a try.
