As Tashi would say… “COME ON”! This is one of the few movies I kinda knew what to expect and it didn’t disappoint. Usually I end up being underwhelmed, but not this time. It’s really just nice to see original stories. I think I mentioned this in the Baby Reindeer post, there are just so many unique stories it’s refreshing to see them come through in our recent era of remakes galore.
For some reason this movie gave off thriller vibes. One of my friends asked if it was a thriller and then almost all the previews were horror movies, so then I was like what is happening here? I’d say it’s more of an intense movie than a thriller. It’s intensely passionate people in high stakes personal and professional situationships.
The movie follows two tennis buddies, Art and Patrick, who watch the young prodigy Tashi play during the tournament and are instantly hooked. Patrick is clearly the one interested and ready, but Art can’t help but feel a connection to Tashi as well. An entanglement of sorts ensues.
Such a random comment, but by the trailers, I didn’t find the guys (Mike Faist & Josh O’Connor) super appealing, obviously Zendaya is Zendaya, but I must say I was swayed! Josh who plays Patrick has such a delightfully playful charisma. There is definitely a level of arrogance linked to that, which is usually not my vibe, but there’s something almost childlike about him which makes you fall for him. Art on the other hand I totally fell for as instantly and I had to admit to myself he was rather calculated. And yet I think Mike Faist is my new obsession. They played off each other and off of Zendaya so well. Their chemistry within each dynamic was next level. The vibe of the trailer that did match the actual movie was the sexiness. This movie is hot, intense and unique.
The actual premise and actors were so good. I have to give extra love to the direction, cinematography and music. It was so beautiful to look at, and had so many interesting shots and perspectives. Whether it was the tennis match scenes or the moments when certain characters meet. It was cohesive and dynamic at the same time. And mixed in with the instant investment into these relationships and who is the ultimate tennis champion, this movie is so engaging.
I would definitely recommend watching this movie and in theaters if you can. It really is a great watch if you want something sexy and thrilling (not to be confused with a scary thriller).
