Edoboy | Orlando Foodie Finds

I’ve heard only great things about Edoboy and have been waiting to give it a try. A small, intimate, unique experience where you and 7 others stand and have a sushi meal. The only thing that’s kept me from trying this spot earlier was how hard it is to get a reservation. I happened to luck out the other day with an open spot available the day of and I was in need of an indulgence.

I originally thought I was going to try one of their smaller sushi sets from the menu, but when I told my friend I was going, she barely had to convince me that their ‘baller set’ was the way to go. Honestly, aside from my wallet, there were no regrets. With the baller set you get an opening bite, 8 pieces of ultra-premium sushi, 1 temaki, and a salmon miso soup to close things out. I was hooked at the opening bite, which was consumed of tempura Nori, hamachi-scallop tartare, creme fraiche, imperial Kaluga caviar, and chives. I loved the bit of creaminess and the creep of the nori. I was only sad it was such a small bite.

As a perpetually single person, I thought it would be kind of awkward going alone, and I was the only solo person, but I didn’t feel awkward at all. I just enjoyed watching the chefs do their thing and before I could feel awkward, the next bite was on its way.

There may have been a few I loved more than others, but there were no bad bites at Edoboy. So I definitely do recommend doing the baller set, especially since these resy’s are so hard to get. And in comparison to our expanding options of omakase here in Orlando, this is definitely on the affordable side. I went hungry, but not starving and it was the perfect amount of food. I also got a house sake and ended the set with their matcha s’more for dessert. The sake was good and definitely enough to split with someone. Their take on a s’more with the matcha chocolate & housemade matcha marshmallow was unique and comforting at the same time. It was the only dessert option, and really the only one they needed. The chocolate likely had a white chocolate base and was on the sweet side, but the homemade marshmallow was not so it was the perfect balance. It may have put me over the edge with how full I was, but it was worth it.

Again the environment is small and cozy, and I enjoyed the full experience. Our hostesses were super sweet and helpful throughout the night. The chefs were fun to watch. I did feel like they could have used another person, it was a lot back-to-back-to-back. And the next crowd had already arrived when I was still wrapping up my meal. I didn’t feel rushed, but it just felt like they could have used the extra help. They didn’t need to because watching them do their magic was awesome, but I felt like the chefs could have been more interactive to elevate the experience just a tad more. At this point, I’m just being nit-picky.

If you find a reservation and have some $$$ to splurge, give them a go. If you don’t have the money for the baller set, you can get up to 8 individual sushi pieces or one of the smaller sets. There’s something you can find on a budget and it would still be fantastic.
