We already know I love an Irish Pub. My Irish pub buddy told me about this spot, and we’ve gone a few times, and I’ve brought others around. It’s become one of my favorites in the city.
The Drinks: Being a pub, it has all the classic beers. Of course, my go-tos are a Guinness or a Kilkenny, and they have both on tap. Weekdays from 3-6pm, you can get a 20-ounce pour of one of those, plus a few more options, on their happy hour menu. On this last visit, I needed some extra caffeine and ended up ordering the Cold Brew Irish Coffee. I’m not a huge espresso martini girl, but this did hit the spot. I would always opt for one of the beers at a pub, but I fully believe you can’t go wrong with a cocktail here.
The Food: Very similar to my experience in Ireland, I had not very high expectations, and it was exceeded. The first time I went, I believe I got the bangers and mash. This last time I got the sausage roll, I didn’t remember that I wasn’t a huge fan of the sausage itself. To me, it didn’t have enough flavor, and not a lot of salt. I do think that’s a personal taste bud situation. The fry on the roll was great, and the mash was fantastic. On one visit, I ordered the soup of the day, and that was really comforting and yummy. Every time I’ve gotten the soda bread, which I really enjoy, it is so homey and has a delightfully fluffy, creamy whipped butter. At the very least, order the soda bread.
The Vibe: There’s a little patio area right out front, and depending on the weather, they have a bunch of doors right up front to set up a cool indoor/outdoor vibe. Which is great, especially if they had some live music going. Of course, a great bar setup, with deep brown structures that I love in an Irish pub, and gives that castle-y vibe. There’s also a touch of glam with velvety booths towards the back and accented tiles. It’s laid back and feels just a bit fancier than other Irish Pubs. As it gets more lived in, I think it’ll really have that neighborhood bar vibe.
The Parking: Right in the back, there are a few spots, and I’ve been lucky to snag one whenever I’ve gone. Otherwise, it is on Edgewater Drive, so there is also a bit of street parking available. I’ve come to really enjoy this side of town. With some great restaurants like Adriatico’s and coffee shops, I recently checked out Cups and Pups. It’s a good hot spot for foodies, like me!
Overall: This is officially in my rotation with Fiddler’s and Raglan Road. I definitely need to check out any other Irish Pubs in town, but these are my big three. It is a bit of a hike for me, but if you enjoy a pub or a good beer, this is a great spot for a chill hangout or even a nice dinner. Check it out!
