Final stop on this Mills Market tour was the super buzzy Unigirl. I like me an onigiri. I don’t actually think I’ve had an unigiri here in Orlando, I’ve had them up north in NY and PA. So I was super excited that we had a spot dedicated to them here in Orlando.

The Meal: I had already ordered plenty between Banh Mi Boy and Kai Kai, so I didn’t know how much to get. Unigiri to me are snacks, very filling snacks. When I first got to the market, Unigirl wasn’t open yet. By the time it opened, the line was so long that I decided to get a couple. I went for the Spicy Garlic Crab and Fried Chicken.

I started with the Spicy Garlic Crab. I was expecting spicy crab salad vibes. It seemed to be real crab versus imitation crab. The filling itself was tasty, but there was so little of it. It took me a few bites to even get to it. This one was about $6.50, pricier than the others, assuming because of the real crab, but not enough filling for the higher price in my opinion.

The fried chicken had more filling. Filled as much as it could be without bursting. There was still a light crunch to the chicken. The outside was a bit tough, but the inside was juicy and flavorful. It was leaning on the salty side for me. There were a few sauces in this one, but there’s no menu or description of the items, so I’m not entirely sure what it was. I’m guessing some sriracha and mayo.

Overall: Unigirl was a bit of a miss for me. The wait was the opposite of Kai Kai. I waited for about 30 minutes in line, but everything was ready to go, so I was out the door as soon as I ordered. Compared to the other spots, I don’t know if this is the one I’d wait for again, especially that long.

I like the concept, and the prices aren’t absurd for this day and age. And the staff was super sweet. I simply didn’t love these onigiri. They weren’t bad, just not nearly as exciting or tasty as I’d have liked. It was a bit too rice-forward. If I happened to be in the market again and there was no line, I’d give it another try. Otherwise, I’m okay with Unigirl for now.
