I’ve seen a bunch of wine spots popping up all over the city. Happy to try them all out… one by one. Golden Hour Wine is just a quick walk away from the nice little town center on New Broad St in Baldwin Park. Took a stroll through the street, then popped over for some wine.
The Parking: This area usually has lots of street parking around, in case you want to get very close to the wine shop. There’s also a large parking area by the Publix just a minute walk away. A super convenient area for parking.
The Atmosphere: A very cute spot at one of the townhome apartments. Truly right in the heart of the people. It’s a small location that is mainly a storefront. There are a few options for wine by the glass as well. I thought the layout and decor were super cute. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, ready to provide knowledge and recs. There is some indoor and outdoor seating. I ended up being the only one in the store while I visited, and I did sit inside for a minute, but I’d say it’s more leaning towards a wine shop than a wine bar.
The Wine: I won’t lie, I was a bit overwhelmed walking in. I totally thought it was more of a wine bar, but then I felt like I had to shop. I looked around for a bit before asking if they had wine by the glass. Being that we are in the dead of summer, I asked for a refreshing rec. They went straight to recommending the three whites on the menu. I opted for the domino, a Portuguese blend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though all the whites were described as dry. And if we are being totally honest, I am no wine expert. All I know is it was chilled nicely, pleasantly sweet, and had some stone-fruit flavor. It was very drinkable, perfect for a hot day.
As I mentioned, I did feel a bit obligated to shop. So I asked for a bottle rec as well. I usually drink red when I go out, but during this summer heat, sometimes white is just the way to go. But I asked them for something smooth, fruit-forward, and not overly sweet. They had some options ready by the time I finished my glass. I appreciated that they gave a variety of price points and had some pointers about each. I ultimately went for one that they said, “if you don’t like this, you don’t really like red wine”. Challenge accepted. I just got the bottle, so maybe I’ll make an update here once I’ve tried the red. One day, we’ll find out if I do indeed like red wine.

Overall: I do think this spot is super cute and charming. I would stop by here again, but probably to support a local business and to grab a friend a bottle of wine. Even though they have some options for wine by the glass, and nothing felt weird, I just kind of feel awkward having a glass of wine by myself in the middle of the store. Either way, it’s a nice experience to have a shop specializing in natural wines with a staff that’s knowledgeable and ready to help you find the perfect bottle. If they host a wine tasting or class of some sort, I would totally be there.
