Man, Those Guys are popular! They really took off with their mobile coffee shop popping up around town. Their marketing has been fantastic. As soon as I saw them popping up on all my feeds, I wanted to give them a try. Somehow, I happened to stop by a shop where the trailer was parked. I didn’t need the extra caffeine, but I wasn’t passing up the opportunity to try these guys!
The Parking: I was visiting the Good Crowd gift shop, and there was plenty of parking on the street. Really depends on where they are parked.
The Atmosphere: The trailer itself is so cute. It’s simple, but it has a very nice logo and print. I like the simple blue on bright white. I’m curious what the design will be if they end up getting a brick-and-mortar.
The Coffee: With all the boom of pistachio, I instantly gravitate towards it if it’s on the menu. When I went the first time, there was the regular menu, the seasonal menu, and a tiny holiday menu. The holiday menu had two options: the gingerbread latte and a pistachio white choc matcha. I wanted to try one of the signature drinks on the regular menu, but that dang pistachio was calling me.
I checked with the person taking my order if it could be made half-sweetened, and she said yes. She said it wouldn’t be too sweet because the flavors were all made in-house. The staff was super sweet and friendly. They were also very busy. There was a steady line from when I got there to well after I left. The line to order moved much more quickly than the waiting area. I wanna say it was close to a half hour wait.
Pistachio got the best of me. The concept I was there for, but even with asking for it half-sweet, it was very sweet. This drink also leaned more on the white chocolate than the pistachio flavor. Unfortunately, the flavors totally drowned out the matcha. I was left wishing I tried one of the signature flavors on the regular menu.
And so on my last visit, I made sure to get a signature drink. I ordered the blueberry dream matcha. Getting the half-sweet may sacrifice flavor, but it was the right sweetness level for me. Since the sweetness is probably coming from the blueberry syrup, they likely don’t add as much. They did say if I wanted more, I could ask, but then the sweetness would have been too much. All to say, the blueberry flavor was faint. However, as a matcha, I enjoyed it. Much, much more than the previous drink. I’m tempted to try it again with full sweetness to see if the flavor is more prominent.
I’d totally try Those Guys again, especially if I just stumble upon them. I was a bit disappointed in what I ordered the first time. The last visit definitely redeemed them a bit. I am curious to try an espresso-based drink next time. I love the vibe though, it almost feels like a block party. Both times and locations there was a good crowd. And I love that it’s usually paired with another local spot. It was nice to grab a cup of matcha and check out Good Crowd and House on Lang. A great community hang!
