Mitr | The NY Edit

You know I found myself back in NY… I hadn’t gone yet this year and it simply had been too long! My friend invited me to an event at her work, Brew at the [Bronx] Zoo, so you know I planned a weekend around it. A super quick, food-filled weekend as usual. Here’s one of a few spots I checked out on this trip, Mitr.

I do tend to lean towards stopping at, at least one Thai restaurant while I’m in NY or PA. For some reason, it’s just not it here in Orlando. One of my favorite dishes is Pad Se Ew or Pad Kee Mao, basically dishes with wide rice noodles, and Orlando just doesn’t have them. I’m waiting for the day any Thai place here has really wide noodles, or better yet make them in-house.

After a morning at the MoMA, my friend, cousin, her friend and I were ready for some lunch. It was a quick walk over, just a bit brutal during the summer in the concrete jungle. It was a small, but not a crazy small spot for NY, with two floors worth of seating. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation, but they had an annoying everyone in the party has to have arrived to be seated policy. One of my other friends came to meet us there and she was still on her way. I will say they very clearly had signs up stating this rule and it is probably pretty common in the city. So even though there was clearly seating available, we had to wait for my friend to arrive. The good thing is, I definitely worked up an appetite by the time we got seated.

I went with something I knew I would like and was craving, the Pad See Ew and a Thai Iced Tea. The tea was great, not too sweet, yet still creamy and even refreshing after the walk in the heat. As much as I do like trying something new, I’m glad I went with my tried and true favorite Pad See Ew. It had the wide noodles I was hoping for. I wish I had a better description aside from it was exactly what I wanted. Even when I was starting to get full, I couldn’t stop eating.

As much as the seating rule is annoying, I could see why it’s needed given it’s a busy day. And our main server was super sweet. The food was really good, we all cleaned our plates. A combo of us being very hungry and the meal being delicious. If you are in that area of Midtown or need an option after hitting up the MoMA or Rockefeller Center, this is a great option.

[…] Pad See Ew I’ve had in Orlando. My comparison point is the dishes I’ve had in the northeast. I don’t know if that’s authentic, but nowhere else in the city has come close to this […]
