I recently dropped by the second location of Bakery 1908. I’d been to the original about a year or so ago. The second location is a bit of a closer commute, but the same concept and overall experience. I realized I hadn’t posted when I went originally, so here we are!

The Parking: The original location is a standalone shop and has a pretty large personal parking lot. In the downtown East Colonial area, it’s a huge win. The newer location in Apopka is on the busier side of town. There is a small parking area, but if you don’t know where to turn in, it can easily be missed in the congested area. Once you are in, there are plenty of spots in both lots.

The Vibe: Both locations are super casual. Part of the meal is the experience. You pick what you want on your own, grab a tray and tongs, and scope through, like a buffet style. Just have to keep a check on yourself, because your tray will add up in $$.

There’s plenty of seating in both locations, but it is a much larger space in Apopka. I was actually surprised by how much open space they had; they had really cute seating decor too. Both times I went early in the morning, so there weren’t many folks there, but it could hold quite a few folks. Potentially a good spot to work out of as well.

The Meal: There are a lot of options, primarily buns, but there are other baked goods as well. Sweet and savory selections. Once you pick all the things, you will check out. There are more desert-like options at the counter as well as beverages.

The first time I went, I got two buns, one sweet and one savory. I believe I got the BBQ pork bun and a matcha bun. This last trip, I chose the sesame pork, ham & egg, and coffee bun. The bun itself is fantastic. Soft, bouncy, and slightly sweet. I really enjoyed the ham & egg and BBQ pork buns for a savory option. The BBQ one was obviously a bit sweet, but even the ham & egg one had a little sweetness, in a nice, balanced way. I wish I liked the sesame pork one more. I preferred the regular BBQ pork over it. The sesame kind of took away from the bun itself; it was a more dense bun of the bunch.

On the sweet side, the coffee one was a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but the coffee paste inside had a nice coffee flavor, not overly sweet, which I prefer. There was also a lemon-y glaze on top. It was unexpected, but it worked quite well. I recall not loving the matcha. I do love a good matcha drink now, but still a hit or miss when I have matcha flavored items.

Both times I went, it was too early to have the full drink menu. They only start their fancy drink options past 10AM. The last time I went, I needed some caffeine and I opted for an Americano. It wasn’t it. I’d skip on a beverage at least until the other drinks are available. I’m hoping the other drinks are worth it.

Let’s ignore the crumb on my face the last half of the video. Ok thanks, bye✌🏽 Edited with #CapCut #orlando #orlandofoodie

Overall: The buns are totally worth it. It’s a fun experience, and I love having the ability to try a few things. You can try around three things for about $15, and they are pretty hefty in size. Even better if you go with a couple of folks to try out a variety and share. Every flavor won’t be for everyone, but I think you can find something up your alley. I was clearly disappointed with the beverage situation, but I’m hopeful they have good options. I’d drop by again for sure.

[…] not sure if that is the expected texture. I was expecting it to be soft and bouncy, similar to the 1908 buns. If you don’t mind that texture, then it could be worth a try. But I think it is too […]
