One of the buzziest spots I’ve seen of late. So you know, I had to go check it out.
The Parking: For me, a bit of a nightmare. I really enjoy the Ivanhoe area, but the parking always gives me some anxiety. Street parking is available if you are lucky. Dr. Drips does have a bit of parking available on the side of the building. It’s just a bit small and tight. One time there was nothing available when I pulled in… and I had to awkwardly get myself out. Then the time I actually made it into Dr. Drips, there were plenty of spots available early on a Saturday morning.
The Atmosphere: I have to give it up to whoever decorated this spot. It is a full vibe. Eclectic in all the right ways. Retro and fun while being cool, and dare I say sexy, specifically the back area. The front has a bright, 70s, mid-century modern feel. While the back has a more moody, laid-back, gritty vibe. I was really blown away by all the different energies in that space, while still being cohesive.
The Coffee: The menu has many unique-sounding options. And I was a tad overwhelmed. I spent quite some time talking to the barista about wanting something that wasn’t too sweet. She ultimately recommended one of their most popular/signature drinks, the caramel cacao latte. I should have followed my gut… Knowing that sounded too sweet… And it being a latte… I really set myself up.
If you love a sweet coffee drink, then this is the one. It was just so sweet, I could not even try to finish it. I was disappointed, more in myself… But with a drink being close to $10… I wasn’t going to try more than one. Most of the signature drinks sound like they would be leaning on the sweet side. So unless I try a basic cold brew, I don’t know that anything would have worked for me…
I really wanted to enjoy the drink. I’m not opposed to trying something else at some point… And since I loved the space so much… If anyone wants to have a casual hang there, I’d be more than happy to go back and try another drink.
