Fable has been on my go-to list for some time now. It’s a bit of a hike for me, so I kept putting it off. I had the time the other week and figured, I’m right next to Jolibee, so it would be a 2-for-1 experience.
The Parking: Plenty of parking, as it’s in a strip shopping center. Didn’t have any trouble there. Just the drive there was a bit of a pain, but it’s not actually that bad.
The Atmosphere: Definitely a college hangout spot. There was a mix of people there with friends and others studying. The decor is low-key, leaning nerdy, with lots of sci-fi posters. And a shelf full of games for folks to enjoy. Plenty of people were taking advantage, and I loved to see it. There is also a decent amount of space. When I arrived, there was a good number of people, but a few spots to choose from. By the time I left, it was packed. I watched a few people come to look for a place to sit, but not find any.
The Drink: Sometimes I feel like I just order things out of panic. I feel bad taking too long, and I’ll order the first thing that jumps out. One of the specialties was a Carrot Cake Latte, available as espresso or matcha. I ended up getting a matcha, and I wish I had gone for the espresso. I think it does work with matcha. It wasn’t bad, it just felt like the warm flavors of carrot cake would pair so well with espresso. My other mistake was forgetting to ask for it half-sweet. I almost always ask for my drinks half-sweet, and it just escaped me. Definitely, a sweet drink.
But the flavor, I absolutely loved. I’ve seen carrot cake lattes taking off lately, and I don’t think I’ve actually tried it. Probably because I’ve been burned so many times by banana bread lattes. The syrup and cold foam are house-made and spot on. Yes, it is leaning sweet, but those warm spices really shone through, and paired so well with the cream cheese cold foam. The candied walnut topping added to a super well-executed carrot cake flavor.
If I were still in college, in the area, this would be a staple. I love that it is a third space for the younger crowd who probably go to school in the area. It’s one of those places, if I were up in that part of town, I would stop in. Not so much one I’d go out of my way for. I’m glad I finally got to check it out.
