Before I got my eyebrows laminated for the first time, I, of course, looked up what coffee shops were in the vicinity. I’d heard of Lucky Goat, but it seemed like more of a franchise, so I wasn’t in a particular rush to try it. When it’s only 5 minutes away from a destination, though, it’s the perfect time to give it a go.
The Parking: Plenty! I’ve been to this lot once before, years ago, for The Porch. I recall it being busier than that one time I went years ago, but on this trip, I had no trouble.
The Atmosphere: As soon as I walked in, it reminded me of Foxtail, probably the biggest local franchise in the great Orlando area. I can’t really say if that’s good or bad. The plus side is that it’s spacious. And so if you need a place to get caffeinated and work or study, I think it’s a great spot. The downside for me is that it feels like a franchise space. That spark of a local shop just isn’t there.
The Coffee: They have a whole section of cold brew, which I was excited about. On their regular menu, they have a Luckyccino or a Lucky Bomb – both cold brews with vanilla and cream, the bomb having a couple of espresso shots added. A bomb I thankfully dodged. There was also a cold brew with an ube foam top I was considering. I was nervous it would be too sweet, so I asked for opinions. As we may know now, I tend not to make great decisions based on the barista’s recommendations. It’s not their fault. They were super friendly and sweet here!
Ultimately, they said the Luckycchino is on the sweet side and that the cold brew with ube is really just the ube topping that’s sweet, so I went with the latter. I also ordered a spinach and cheese croissant twist. The croissant was decent. I needed a lil sustenance, so it hit the spot. I wouldn’t say it was fabulous, pretty run of the mill. Now, the cold brew on its own was probably decent. The ube topping was not it. There was nothing ube about it. Completely artificial, in a chemical way. I just could not get past it. I don’t know if I had a bad batch, but it was not drinkable. What I will give them is that they called the top a foam, as cold foams are so in right now. And it actually was a foam texture, and I appreciated that. Most people do cream tops, which I personally prefer.
The best thing I had was their hot coffee. They had a station set up for customers to take and try a small sample of their brewed coffee. I’m not sure what kind it was, but it was a solid cup of Joe.
I can’t speak on their other specialty drinks; they may be better. I can honestly say I’m not planning on going back. I think there are just too many options in greater Orlando, and even some franchises to try out. Again, it’s a spacious place to meet up with folks or have a work day away from home. The people were friendly. I’d recommend going for a basic but efficient classic coffee.
