Matthew’s Steakhouse | Orlando Foodie Finds

There are still so many places on Plant Street I haven’t tried. Slowly making my way through the ones I’ve been interested in trying. Matthew’s has been one of those spots. The price point was keeping me away. But apparently I’ve been YOLO-ing a bit too hard lately.

The Parking: Please refer to any of my Plant Street reviews on this!

The Atmosphere: I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. I knew it was a fancier steakhouse. I don’t know how to explain it, but a bit dated, but in a homey way. You can see from the outside it’s small, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as small as it was on the inside. I sat at the bar, which is to the right as soon as you walk in, with a few booths and a few tables. I’d say it’s a pretty basic layout, nothing extra.

The Meal: The drinks were so expensive that I should have held off. But you should know by now, I have no self-control. So I ended up with the Southern Buzz, a reposado tequila with a citrus vanilla simple, and fresh espresso. It was $23. Would I get it again? For that price, no. But at like $15 or less, yeah, for sure. The one thing that somewhat justified the price was that it came with a full-sized flower sugar cookie. I took that home for a snack.

The menu isn’t super extensive, and pretty standard for a steakhouse. I went for the cheapest option, which was by no means inexpensive, the 6 oz center cut filet mignon, cooked to medium. It’s served with a baked potato. There really is nothing exciting to report back. It was a very okay meal. But… I love flavor. I love when restaurants make simple meals shine, like Coro and Foreigner. That makes me not completely hate myself for setting myself back financially. However, I wasn’t wowed by this meal, the steak or potato.

This was probably a spot I could have skipped. I drove past it time and time again and was curious. Definitely expected much more since it’s a much pricier spot on the main street. Considering the food was pretty medicore and the overall vibe was just not for me, it’s not a restaurant that I plan to return to. It wasn’t bad. I just don’t think I’m the target audience.
