As we know, I am easily influenced. I started getting Instagram posts from Gurch fed to me, and I was like Oh, new coffee shop!’ And then I looked it up and saw it was closer to my side of the world. That got me pumped! So it quickly went to the top of my to-go list.
Parking: There is actually a decent amount of parking right outside Gurch. It used to be a boba shop, not positive, but I think it was the original Teamont location in town. There were a few different businesses in the hall. And right outside is a parking lot. As of the time I’m writing this, half of the parking lot right outside Gurch is open. The other half, along with the other part of the hall, is closed off. You can read about the parking in the general area here.
Atmosphere: Even with the same layout as the previous business, I like how they have redone the space. They fit in a decent amount of seating, considering it’s on the smaller side. Bench seating all the wall with tables, coffee bar seating, plus a few extra tables and chairs.
Something I really appreciated was how thoughtful they are. The first time I’ve gotten a fully compostable coffee cup. There are signs with descriptions of the coffee available. And my favorite was a barter book right up at the counter. A way for locals to ask for and give things they may need.
Coffee: Initially, I was going to order an espresso tonic. Cause ya know if it’s on the menu, I’ll try it. Unfortunately, it was a previous seasonal menu that I was looking at. Instead of jinxing myself into a latte, I opted for a go-to favorite, a cold brew. I tried it with one of their housemade syrups, honey sesame. This may be one of my favorite flavors I’ve had in a while. The honey and sesame flavors came through. Yet it was subtly sweet, with a touch of nuttiness. Actually perfect for me. The cold brew was nice and smooth, and I got it with a tiny splash of milk. Everything works so well together. I was actually sad when I finished.
Loved it so much, I’ve been 3 times now. I’ve gotten the same order every time. I’m almost nervous to deviate. Started on such a high. The honey sesame was the most unique-sounding syrup, but I am curious to try their other offerings. Not just syrups, but beyond a cold brew. It is nice to have a tried-and-true option, though!
I did try a cheddar Leige waffle. I think by design, actually, the waffle was dense. It was okay. I’m so used to light and fluffy, and wasn’t prepared for this consistency. There is a sweet waffle option too, which may be more up my alley. I’d like to see what other bites they bring to their regular menu.
This is by far my favorite coffee in the Downtown Clermont area. Yes, I know that’s a big statement when I’ve only had the cold brew. But I’d go get that gain over any other beverage I’ve had on or off Montrose St. I wish I knew about them when they were at their previous location, but I’m glad I’ve finally found them. This is a strong contender for my go-to coffee shop. I will for sure be there again… Regularly… Maybe tomorrow.
